*I’m walking into a library with O… returning a stack of books. We have checked out several items, for some reason I keep thinking they are worth $1,000.00 and we have to remember to check them all back in otherwise we’ll be charged. She wants to scan them all back in herself, so I show her how and I stand and watch as she checks them all back in and stacks them on a counter. I walk her to the children’s section of the library. The shelves are low… the books on the shelves are very brightly colored. I tell her she can look around and pick out a couple of new books to take home. As I walk around an aisle I see a vast area of the library is nearly empty… they are remodeling. There are very few patrons in here, mostly employees. They are caught up in the remodel, not asking if I need help or anything, talking to each other about where things go and who should go on break. The empty area… I can see marks in the carpeting of where large shelves used to be screwed into the floor.. brackets on the walls… lots of large windows. I walk through to another section… this area is being set up… it’s a craft area. Walls have various items hung up as if for sale… I don’t focus on much of anything but it looks like a generic craft store. There are tables with sewing machines set up all over… you can come here and rent (or check out) time on sewing machines. I walk further into another area and see several gaming stations set up on desks that look like school desks… modules for the Nintendo Wii are set up in what looks like work stations… they are here to test out or play. I see Wii tennis rackets set up next to each screen. In another area there are Wii Fits set up to try out… a bank of 6 school desks are set in the middle of the room, a Wii fit on each desk (though I don’t see any monitors) There is a woman behind an information desk, talking excitedly to another person. I realize I’ve wandered pretty far from the children’s section, and I don’t like being that far away from O in a public place. I walk back through and find her… I walk her through the area I was at, showing her how they also have video games set up with musical instruments… one kid (boy, about 10 or 11) is playing with a module that replicates a trumpet… music comes from the monitor in front of him. I see racks of instruments for sale… recorders but the mouth pieces are shaped like an oboe.
*I’m in an auditorium watching a performance… cross between ballet and theater. There is a band… the main performer is GP… but there are several parts of this show. There are adults dancing, there is an opening in the floor of the stage and several kids (I recognize from the neighborhood) come out of the square in the floor, run to the front of the stage for a quick bow, and then run to the back in a line. Seems like it might be the end of the show. There is a magic trick at the end… some kind of… large piece of foam people emerge from? It’s a triangular shape. At the end GP stands center stage and bows. I wonder why he is doing a magic trick, when I thought this was supposed to be a band’s performance. In the lobby O is asking how the magic trick worked, and I show her a diagram, the kids come in through a tunnel… I see a sketch of the end of the tunnel, it’s round… coming out of a wall and kids are crouched down next to it… looks kind of like the end of a sewer line.
