Common Themes
- Finding bathrooms – I will often look for bathrooms in my dreams if I have to use one in real life and I’m not quite awake yet. Almost always, the bathrooms are not able to be used for one of several reasons: they are broken, messy, clogged, or located in an incredibly public place.
- Mixing Time lines – I will mix times up in my dreams – dreaming that I am younger, but that I have items or knowledge from the current time. I will also dream of current friends in younger form.
- My parent’s house – I rarely dream of the current place I am living… “home” seems to be represented in my dreams by my parent’s house. Sometimes it looks nothing like the actual house, but in my head I will label it as my parent’s house.
- Morning Rituals – If I need to get up in the morning, I will often fall back asleep and dream that I have gotten up and am getting ready for the day, or doing whatever it is I was just thinking I needed to do (like write notes about dreams, or get Offspring ready for school)
- Agenda Items – If I have something important scheduled to do, I will tend to dream that the event is coming up, or has passed and I forgot about it or was late. They aren’t nightmares exactly, but more like frustrating dreams of perpetually being late and forgetting things.
- Being Chased – I often have dreams of being chased. Usually I don’t know the entity that is chasing me
- “OOB” – if I tag a dream “OOB” it stands for Out Of Body… in these dreams I get the feeling that I am representing someone else (possibly remote viewing?) and though the people around me might be people I recognize from my own life… they are actually representing others as well.
- People milling around – when I type this… what it looks like in my head is similar to cerebro (the device used by Prof.X to locate mutants in X-Men comics) I can see people, but they are not related to my current dream – as if I’m looking through several glass-less windows into other scenes. It also feels somewhat like a crossroads, like I can pick a different path for the dream to take from here. The other people don’t appear to be aware of my presence.
- Phone numbers/combinations – often I will be trying to dial a phone number or to work a combination lock and either I don’t remember the numbers, or I perpetually mis-dial and have to start over from the beginning. I usually have to re-try at least three times, if not more.
- Showers not in bathrooms – for some reason when I’ve been dreaming about showers lately, they never seem to be inside of bathrooms… the shower heads come out of the walls and the water falls directly onto carpeting in most cases.
- Auditoriums – I’ve noticed a trend in dreams taking place in auditoriums over the last couple months. I’m not entirely sure what the symbolism might be with that.
- Semi-constructed buildings – these have cropped up as a common theme as of late, usually associated with nightmares (being chased)
- Heights – Issues with heights come up often in my nightmares – being on chair lifts, airplanes with no walls, stairs that have no railings, elevators that don’t work properly, standing on ledges.
- Government Agents – No idea what this is about, but it seems to be an extension of my dreams about being chased… I’ve had several dreams where either I am an agent, or I’m being chased by them. Many of the violent nightmares include some kind of interaction with agents.
